...well, kinda!! :) The 3.1 mile Mardi Gras 5K Run seemed like a marathon in my eyes! Friday evening I heard an advertisement for a 5K run in Dallas followed by a Mardi Gras parade in downtown. Chris is training for a marathon (a real one) so I decided that we should do this run. Saturday afternoon, we arrived at the site of the run, signed up, got our little bibs and enjoyed the free vitamin water and live music before the race started.
At 5:30pm the run began and everyone took off. The weather was beautiful but a tad bit windy! It was interesting watching everyone...there was a barefoot jogger, a handicapped man in a wheelchair (they were nice enough and let him get a head start), a few women dressed in crazy Mardi Gras attire, a man with a gigantic hat, a very old gentleman who I thought was going to crumble to the ground with every step he took and then of course, your typical runners...o ya, and a guy with the shortest shorts I have ever seen! I don't know how he kept everything covered, but all I can say is that I am glad he did!
Chris was so nice and walked with me when I got winded but also pushed me enough so I didn't wimp out.
He is so sweet! I did discover though that I DO NOT like being talked to while running! Sorry Chris! :) As the run came to an end, I was very proud of myself (a person who HATES running and never does it) for finishing the run. I also was very out of breath and already sore! After
crossing the finish line, I looked over at my husband and noticed that he was breathing as hard as someone who had been sitting on their behind for 5 hours!! Here I am painting like a dog and the 3.1 miles we just ran didn't even phase him. (The boy had just ran 16 miles not 6 days before, so obviously 3 miles is a piece of cake to him.)
Needless to say, I have yet to decide if there will be another 5K in my near future...it was fun but I still am not a fan of running!
After the race, we watched the parade for a while, got some beads thrown (not tossed, but thrown) at us, walked around a bit then went to hang out with our good friends the Chris & Jackie Manack. We relaxed and the boys grilled us some dinner! It was wonderful! We got to see their beautiful new home and spend some quality time with them.
Little did we know that Jackie would be going into labor the next evening!!! YAY! :) We got a phone call around 6pm on Sunday saying that they were going to the hospital. We went to visit them around 8pm and everything was going well. Jackie was very calm and Chris was pacing around the room. If you asked him what he was doing, his response was, "just praying that everything will be alright and that we will have a healthy baby boy". Chris (& Jackie's) prayers were answered at 3:10 am on Monday morning when their beautiful baby boy, Lucas Christopher Manack, was brought into the world! Chris and I went to visit them Monday evening and got to hold little Lucas. He is so perfect!! Chris & Jackie are going to make such wonderful parents. I cannot wait to get to babysit!! haha :)

Way to go Angela! I am like you and do not enjoy running. I have always wanted to be someone who did...but I can't fool myself. I get winded carrying Jackson from the car to the house =) Thats nice that Chris was there to coach you!
Congrats on your run!!! I am so impressed. So why did Chris run 16 miles...is he training for a marathon? Anyways you guys look great. I am so excited for Jackie. Their baby is so so cute!!!
Yes, he is training for a marathon in April...crazy boy!! :)
Tell Chris good luck on running the marathon!! Which one is he going to run? I am really excited for him, I wish I could have that type of motivation. So when I get down there we will have to do a murder mystery party. It was so fun. We got ours online, from my sister in law who had done it. There are tons of other kinds. Miss you.
